Issue
Many of the streets of central bath have uneven paving slabs, missing or broken pointing or both. Others are paved with slabs that are so flat they become slippery when wet. Both of theses situations make pushing a wheelchair difficult and increase tripping risk. In the former case the chair must be pushed on up on its back wheels to avoid the risk of the passenger being thrown out. In the latter the pusher can find it difficult to get enough traction.
Opportunity
This wheelchair pusher views asphalt as the easiest surface to push on. On streets where heritage appearance is not critical asphalt could replace concrete paving stones providing an improved experience for wheelchair users and potentially lower maintenance requirements. In areas where heritage appearance is important evenly laid riven yorkstone was the preferred surface.
