Cyclists on pavements and other unexpected places make people with sight loss uncomfortable

Issue
When people with sight loss encounter cycles where they are not expecting them it can reduce their confidence and make them feel very uncomfortable. As they approach both silently and quickly bicycles have a great capacity to surprise people who can not see them coming. People with sight loss encounter cycles riding illegally in pedestrian areas but also in areas that are shared between pedestrians and cyclists but where this is not necessarily apparent to pedestrians.

Opportunity
Forcing cyclists and pedestrians to share space is undesirable. Where this can not be avoided the presence of cycles should be indicated with clear high-contrast markings. Where pedestrians have priority over cyclists this could be signalled formally with zebra crossings.
