Issue
Open, wide pedestrian areas can be difficult to navigate for people with sight loss because of the absence of navigational features. In situations, such as the space between Store Street and the Abbey this can cause people to end up leaving the space on a route other than the one they intended to.
Opportunity
Adding an unobstructed run of guidance tactile paving, potentially in a contrasting colour to the surrounding paving would provide a route between the various exits from the space that people with sight loss could follow and avoid them becoming lost in space. As the tactile paving would be providing guidance and not indication of a footway/carriageway boundary it would only need to be 400 mm wide.
