Issue
Throughout central Bath flagstones are not level or have broken pointing presenting trip hazards, particularly to people with sight loss and, at best a source of discomfort, and at worse a major barrier to wheelchair and scooter users. Whilst identifying it as an issue many participants acknowledged the significance of the heritage paving to the character of the city.
Opportunity
As part of street improvements existing historic flagstones could be re-laid and re-pointed to ensure they were perfectly level. Where this is not possible they could be replaced with new riven yorkstone (as used at the South end of High Street) which maintains the heritage character without presenting barriers to disabled people.
