This can make it difficult for people with sight loss to distinguish footway from carriageway and to read level changes which can often be unpredictable.<\/p>\n<div class=\"resp-video-center\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><div class=\"resp-video-wrapper size-16-9\"><iframe title=\"Tonal contrast is useful for some people with sight loss but as would be level surfaces\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/130464782?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\"><\/iframe><\/div><\/div>\n<p><strong>Opportunity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Using footway and&nbsp;carriageway material that provide a greater tonal contrast would make navigating easier and safer for many people with low vision. Even if similar toned materials&nbsp;must be&nbsp;used for both footway and carriageway a contrasting material is used for the the kerb would aid legibility.
